Many happy memories as an evacuee in Spaldind, living with my Garadparents in Winsover Road, and Cowbit Road. At five years old I went to St. John's School and later to the Willesby School. My paternal grandparents were heavily involved in the Crescent Methodist Church (Mr. J.J.Hayes) and my Sunday School Teacher was my uncle (Mr. E.M. Walden), My only claim to fame was to win the decorated bicycle competation on VE day 1945

Regards,
Terence M. Hayes.

How in the world is that card trick done?????
I am from Spalding, though I am not living there at the moment.Ê Pleased to see it having a decent site with nice pictures, rather than the old, nasty one.

After another visit to Spaldingnet the other day to check out what's going on, it keeps improving by the way, I thought it was time to view the real place.Ê So today the wife and I set off for a tour of a life-time.Ê We parked up in The Crescent then had a good browse around. I couldn't believe how the place had changed so much recently. Shops covering the old market/bus station, no traffic in the centre of the town, 10p to have a pee - well at least it was clean so it was worth it.Ê The highlight of the day though was the discovery of Bookmark, a gem of a place, we both like bookshops but this one's so different.Ê It is a very good bookshop in it's own right but to have an eating place as well was great.Ê The food was excellent and reasonably priced, the surroundings nice and the service very good.Ê Definitely a place not to be missed on the tourist trail.Ê We will be paying more visits that's for sure. It's funny how you see familiar places in a different light when you get older.
Keep up the good work

how found: used Sherlock on my Mac and searched "Spalding Lincolnshire"

What's this? At last a decent local website that warrants a return visit. So much better than all those one hit wonders. Great stuff.

I've been away from the old town a long time, and it's great to know I can keep up with what's going on back home in the old country.
Thanks for a great site.
