The Churches of Spalding

The Churches of Spalding The Churches of Spalding Lincolnshire.
There are many old and interesting churches in and around the town of Spalding. The spires and towers which punctuate the landscape are visible for miles across the fens. Many hold flower festivals during the spring and summer months, and visitors are welcome.

The Reverend John Bruce of St Mary and St Nicolas ,the parish church, maintains a web site containing current information for most of the churches at: www.spaldingchurches.org

Local man John Bruce (58) was ordained as a Priest in the Church of England at a recent service of Ordination in Lincoln Cathedral. John is serving as a non stipendiary curate at the church of St Mary and St Nicolas in Spalding.
His full time paid employment is as a Quality Manager for a computer software house in Sleaford. John started training for the ministry in September 1995 with the East Midlands Ministry Training Course - a non residential course attached to the University of Nottingham - and he gained his Diploma in Theology and Pastoral Studies in November 1998.
The photograph shows John and his wife Christine together with Franciscan friend Brother Bernard, who was a curate at St Mary and St Nicolas back in 1953. The Ordination was on Sunday 3rd October in Lincoln, and John celebrated the Holy Eucharist for the first time on the same evening. This service was well attended by many of John's friends and family - the preacher was the Rev. Michael Taylor, Principal of the East Midlands Ministry Training Course.
